Volunteer somewhere.

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” -Winston Churchill
Why do you volunteer? A hand full of students volunteer because it looks good for colleges, but you should volunteer because you want to. The key to volunteering is to follow your passion. I am volunteering this summer at Miami Children's Hospital. It's the right choice for me because I love kids and working in the medical field has always been my dream. Also, seeing all of the sick children's smiles spread across their faces as volunteers walk into their room will definitely make my summer.

You have probably read about families who have been impacted by certain diseases and created a charity to help cure those diseases. Those families are passionate about finding a cure. They want something good to come out of their tragic loss, in memory of their beloved family member.

Are there any particular causes that are important to you? You need to be happy with what you are doing and work in an area where you have ability. For example, if you are passionate about children (like me), volunteering at Miami Children's Hospital would be perfect.

Volunteering is not all about benefitting the people you know best. It's about helping a complete stranger who needs you most. It's one of those things that leaves you with a good feeling. It doesn't only make a difference in the community, but it changes your perspective on what is important in life. Volunteering reminds me that the world is way bigger than I think it is.

Volunteer work may seem simple but it means so much to those who are affected by it. It's never to late to start.

  1. Although you haven't volunteered yet, I like the way you told us what you were going to do. And in addittion to that, you found a way to still make your writing readable by using emotions and telling us the benfits of volunteering. I like that, good work!

  2. This is a great topic and I like that you included that you should want to volunteer because it means something to you or you want to help out, not just because it will look good on your college application. I love how you included the benefits of volunteering also. Keep up the good work!

  3. I love this topic because volunteering and giving back to the community is such a good thing to do and you're setting the example. I like how you are sharing your possible opportunities on volunteering and giving people good ideas on where to volunteer.
